Enjoy seeing some snapshots of our “Exhibition of Memorabilia” as we celebrated the 200th Anniversary of High Street Methodist Church.
HIGH STREET METHODIST CHURCH THROUGH THE YEARS
Here we see the origins of Methodism in Lurgan at Nettleton’s Court off Queen Street. Leaflets and photographs, the Pulpit Bible and minute books from the 1900’s are on view. More recent church building works, as well as a flavour of church events are included. A special inclusion is the 250th celebration of John Wesley’s conversion, a memorable event indeed.
Girls’ Brigade
Our company began in 1943 and continues to be a vital part of outreach to young girls and their families. There are many interesting photographs to see here as well some uniforms from former days. If you are a past member you might well see yourself parading in the town Youth Parade or at GB camp.
Boys’ Brigade
2nd Lurgan BB formed in 1907 and is an important avenue to reach boys for Christ. The exhibits here include bugles and drums, the company had a bugle band in the past and some GB members were part of this also. Again past members keep a look out for yourself in the many photographs on display.
Women Together, CAMEO & MWI
This bright and colourful display tells of the fellowship among the ladies of our church. Women Together was formed after the Covid-19 pandemic and is a coming together of the MWI and CAMEO groups. You will see examples of the yearly programmes which are always varied.
Men’s Fellowship
The men of the church enjoy meeting together for times of friendship and fellowship. Included are photographs from down through the years and also recent examples of visits to places of interest.
Tuesday Club and Friendship Café
The Tuesday Club for retired members was a popular part of our programme for almost 30 years. The photographs and programmes displayed give a flavour of the fun and fellowship enjoyed by those who were members. Our new venture is the Friendship Café which is open to High Street members and also anyone from the town.
Church Choir & Praise Group
Worship is at the heart of every church and in High Street we were led by many excellent organists and choir masters who are remembered here. The Praise Group was formed in 1985 introducing more modern worship songs.
Banner Ministry
You will see several banners on display. These were seen in the church sanctuary and foyer. The photobook ‘His banner over me’ is on the stage, please take time to browse through it. Also a slideshow will run throughout the day, take time to watch this also.
Follow the Star
The stable scene represents our Christmas outreach event to P3/P4 primary school children. It takes place during the first week of December each year.
Art Beat/Rev Charles Bain
The art club is a recent addition to our weekly programme and the very talented folk who attend have put together a display of their work. Alongside is a display of the late Rev Charles Bain, a very gifted painter.
Youth & Children
This exhibit highlights the work amongst the children and young people of the church including Sunday School, CE, Youth Fellowship and Youth Club. Lots to see here and photo albums to browse through.
Container Ministry (World Mission Partnership)
This ministry has been happening for 37 years and has many remarkable stories to share of God’s provision for the requests of mission partners.
Centre Hall Displays
Featured here are several wedding dresses, wedding albums and photographs of beautiful brides down through the years. Thank you to those who allowed the display of their dresses. Next are some beautiful christening gowns and our baptismal font.
High Street’s War Memorial
We remember here those who belonged to our church who lost their lives in the world wars and in the NI Troubles. Also the Roll of Honour which lists those who fought and thankfully returned home.
